From the very beginning, God gave man a choice of eating from two trees. Our very existence would be determined by the tree we ate from. Before we decide which tree to eat from, we should probably look at the fruit that each one offers and the consequences from eating from each tree.
THE TREE OF LIFE
Type of Tree: SPIRITUAL
Fruit: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS AND SELF-CONTROL. Galatians 5:22
Emotional Result from Eating from the Tree: CONTENTMENT “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:1
Motivational Driver: HUMILITY
Path to the Tree: DELIBERATE CHOICE. “Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Ultimate Result from Eating from the Tree: ETERNAL LIFE
THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL
Type of tree: FLESHLY
Fruit: SEXUAL IMMORALITY, IMPURITY, DEBAUCHERY, IDOLATRY, WITCHCRAFT, HATRED, DISCORD, JEALOUSY, FITS OF RAGE, SELFISH AMBITION, DISSENSIONS, FACTIONS, ENVY, DRUNKENNESS, ORGIES. Galatians 5: 19-21
Path to the Tree: DEFAULT SETTING AT BIRTH. “Behold, I was shaped in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Psalm 51:5
Emotional Result from Eating from the Tree: LUST “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.” 1John 2:16
Motivational Driver: PRIDE
Ultimate Result from Eating from the Tree: Eternal Death
THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TWO TREES SET BEFORE US: CHOOSE LIFE
Awesome, praise God! God bless you!

You’ve stated the choice out there simply, and accurately. We choose, and have to take responsibility for that choice. I hope, in these troubled times, more will choose wisely.

Yes Val!! Amen! Mother Teresa used the titles “tree of love” and “tree of fear” to separate out those motivators, but the same rules apply!! So on my heart this week. All our decisions boil down to either love or fear; you could even say God or self?

Yes, what a great way to look at them! Love and fear – always the real choice in the end…God or self! Have a great rest of the week Meg!

Hi Valerie!
For some reason when I went to your blog in the past, and again today, I saw an older post and thought you were no longer blogging. My mistake, as perhaps you have a post pinned to your home page and I misunderstood. At any rate, glad to see you are actively posting and my wife and I have appreciated your comments very much!
Eternal Life or Eternal Death. Hmmm – let me think about that. Okay, I choose Life! My attempt at humor aside, you did a great job of clearly stating the reality of the choice. I think of the decisions Christian had to make in John Bunyan’s “The Pilgrim’s Progress” on his quest to reach the Celestial City. There are so many decisions in our quest to follow Jesus. Reading His word, prayer and listening to the inner voice of the Holy Spirit is critical in those decisions.
Blessings in Christ,
John and Cindy

Ok, I looked at my site and for some reason WordPress kept my first post always on the post. I deleted it and it should make it more user friendly. Thank you so much for the info! Valerie

Interesting. Perhaps we aren’t meant to eat any of them at all:) Maybe it was because we ate any fruit at all that we fell. Thank you for the post.

Good thought! It says in the Bible that God closed the entrance to the Garden of Eden so that Adam and Eve would not eat from the Tree of Life, otherwise they would live forever. I believe that means in their sinful state. It is interesting to think about! Thanks for your insight!
