Taxis vs. Ubers: Vehicles for Delivery

Do you remember taking taxis when you needed a ride? You called the company, requested a ride and waited twenty minutes for them to show up. You were taken where you needed to go, then you paid the driver and gave him a tip. It’s not so different with Ubers. You order one online and depending on the closeness of the vehicle, someone may be there to pick you up, sometimes in as few as five minutes. There are advantages to each one, although cost-wise Uber is the best value by far. The destination is the same as if you ordered a taxi but the delivery vehicle is different.

Having taken the plunge again into the world of publication again, I noticed that the stats on Amazon were higher for the Kindle version vs. the print version. When you order a Kindle version, it comes to the Kindle immediately, costs a lot less and you can begin reading as soon as you want to. It’s no surprise that Kindle is much more popular than print.When you order a print book online, it costs a lot more and you may have to wait a few days or even a week to get your book. The final result is the same, i.e. you have read the book, only the vehicle for delivery is different. 

It’s all a matter of preference. For me, I prefer to have a print book in my hand when I read. I underline, highlight and make notes when I need to. I have friends that for them, it is all about the Kindle. Fast, easy and cheap, they can buy as many books as they want to because it is so affordable.

  1. Printed books. I love the feel of a book in my hands, the smell of the paper, and the non-electronic print which is easier on my eyes. I also like to write in them, underline sections, and even draw pictures if I’m so moved. Vehicles are important to me. Speed not so much.

  3. I will always chose a print book over an E-book, because seeing, smelling, and touching an actual book makes the experience a lot more real and pleasant. I have never used an Uber, and don’t remember the last time I was in a taxi–if ever. No need for either. If I am traveling without a car, I either walk, or take public transportation.

  4. I prefer to drive myself in my own vehicle. When it comes to the book question, I prefer print to Kindle. I find printed books easier to read, and I like seeing the finished books on in a bookcase to be reminded of what I enjoyed about it.

  5. I grew up reading print books. There is something about the weight of a book in your hands and turning the pages that makes reading so enjoyable. I’ve used e-books but the screen tires my eyes and the glare & reflection diminishes my enjoyment. As for taxi vs. uber/lyft, I’ve only ridden in a taxi a couple of times and only once in an uber. That my husband was the uber driver made the experience less stressful….

  7. I still prefer a paper book! The screens tire out my eyes after a while. Plus you can carry a book more easily wherever you may be (in my opinion). Then, you can pass it along to a gift to a friend when you are done. You can’t keep passing along your “Kindle Fire” or “Tablet” or whatever the gadget is!

  8. I like all kinds of books, and depending on the situation, each type is more convenient. Lounging outside, I prefer a printed book, as screens are hard to read in the bright outdoors. In a doctor’s office or plane, I prefer the books on my phone, as they don’t take up any precious room in my purse or carry on luggage. While walking, I like an audio book, except when a noisy vehicle barrels past, and I lose a sentence!

  10. I prefer books. They are tangible. Besides, suppliers take electronic copies back sometimes. Also, as a historian and an observant human, I know that the best “technology” for reading is the human eye. I have disposed of old-style computer disks because I have no way of accessing the information on them. Paper is better for longer than digital.

  13. Uber still kinda creeps me out lol…and a book in my hands is the way for me. I love being able to flip back and forth..highlight..etc…in a world so overfilled with technology it feels good to have a hobby such as reading and still be able to do it old school style.
